movie industry teaches a lot about distribution

if you have made a decent enough product.....but your distribution is amazing ...one can amass a lot of wealth in a fairly short period of time.

Need to do more analysis.

My job is to not be easy on people. My job is to make them better.

My job is to not be easy on people. My job is to make them better. My job is to pull things together from different parts of the company and clear the ways and get the resources for the key projects. And to take these great people we have and to push them and make them even better, coming up with more aggressive visions of how it could be.

And how are monopolies lost?

And how are monopolies lost? Think about it. Some very good product people invent some very good products, and the company achieves a monopoly. But after that, the product people aren't the ones that drive the company forward anymore. It's the marketing guys or the ones who expand the business into Latin America or whatever. Because what's the point of focusing on making the product even better when the only company you can take business from is yourself? So a different group of people start to move up. And who usually ends up running the show? The sales guy. John Akers at IBM is the consummate example. Then one day, the monopoly expires for whatever reason. But by then the best product people have left, or they're no longer listened to. And so the company goes through this tumultuous time, and it either survives or it doesn't. Look at Microsoft — who's running Microsoft? (interviewer: Steve Ballmer.) Right, the sales guy. Case closed. And that's what happened at Apple, as well.

move mountains :)

Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.

negative pyramid of small victories - thanks Charles duhigg

small victories are really important for building habits.

Although it is very hard to make one to one corelation with such victories and habit formation, but the science is pointing in support of the same.

The power of habit by charles duhigg ... is teaching this to me.

I need to test this , if this thing is correct then I know how to build and run an organization of mammoth size.

whether it works or not....we will get to know in a year time.

reorder because your partners love you - monopoly

Thank you john paul dejoria

I was introduced to this concept of business of reorder.

The whole point of existence of a startup is to become a monopoly as soon as  possible in the market that it created, before the incumbents realize what hit them.

The best war to become a monopoly is to get reorder from the customer. Everything that problem comes to their mind, your company should be the one that becomes the default solution.

customers become more of a partner in this conspiracy against incumbents. More often than not, people have had experience with the big guys and they were looking for a better solution.
You are the better solution.

"reorder will only happen if the customer/partner loves you and your service"

So , it becomes imperative on any startup to give unexpected amount of attention to your early customers ( b-2-b till 100 customers, b-2-c till  1 lack customers). By the time you will hit, these customers numbers, most of the problem would have been solved and you will have better understanding of what all this remain to be solved.

the biggest reward in life

the biggest reward in life is to be able to do what you want to do in this very moment.PERIOD

Everything else is transient.... this is permanent satisfaction.

I always wanted understand why people do shit

Specially in sales.... there are so many people selling shit in the name of learning how to sell...

some talks about superficialities such as looks, tonality......
some talks about connecting on an intellectual level and taking the customer for a ride with what you have to offer.....

selling is hard... .everyone knows it...... because most people do it wrong... and I think even I have been doing it wrong....

Finally, it dawned to me that selling is not selling .....it is actually trying to understand the job/problem that the other person is trying to achieve or a solution to a problem that even our client can not articulate.

Once they get to see it ....they should fall in line for having the same and money flows to your pocket ....as money is the price the person pay for solving the problem - and i think..this is what is called sales...

I am fascinated by sales phenomenon. Its like oxygen for business....... I think it is one of the most beautiful skill set that one can learn..... but why the fuck nobody teaches us sales as a course since childhood.

Leaving a few hardcore geeks( sometimes ,even they have to) , everyone is involved in some sort of sales experience...... Having the ability to effectively close sales makes you a powerful person.

You know , that  if you have entered in the room ....you will get the sales done..... PERIOD.

Sales people have to live with models and numbers...... ya the geek part of you will build the product and keeps making iteration ... but it is the sales part... the rainmaker ... who will love to share it with the world and solve your problem....which is to be free.

Freedom to work harder than you would have ever worked..... just to work on your own terms.

Nobody likes to buy anything, they like to solve problem

nobody likes to buy anything, people have problems and they want to get rid of those problems...they pay for getting those problems solved

Big Idea

Never sell, Solve the problem for the person and charge for it.
