But cultivated unfair advantage is much harder than just buying it ( ask Hike, WhatsApp market share has been growing even after no advertisement )


this concept of CUA ( cultivated unfair advantage) factor could be extended to individuals as well.


we all like to be surrounded by winners and people who have better abilities (  survival mode reasoning).



CUA factor is much harder to come by, but once it does; it has a compounding effect on increasing the probability of success of the entity.

especially in business, honesty will take you to places. your customers start vouching for you. You may like or not like dealing with a particular company but they feel sure dealing with you as they know that you will be honest about their money.

I learned this from British.

when I was in class 6th, my parents were really concerned about our ability to communicate in English,  so he enrolled us in a place called British council. Its a sort of a library with some courses in English. 

back then, they were charging Rs 5000 per child for a period of three months. All three of us got enrolled, it was Rs 15,000 - a lot of money for a middle class to spend on something as intangible as English speaking skill.

long story short, during that period 9/11 took place. We were nearing completion of our course, i think two weeks were left. on the very next day of the tragic incident, all parents were informed that the place will be closed and, the best part, all the money will be given back.

I simply could not believe, had it been an Indian institute they would have just told us to run away and forget about the money.

But the British, they were amazing, gave us the money via cheque. I remember it because I was the one who collected those physical mails. When I saw those cheques, it had a deep impact on me.

I said to myself that when I will deal in money, I will try to be as honest as British.

Mathematical curves in society ?

We have been taught in physics that there are mathematical models and curves that explain our physical environment or nature.

The interesting question would to ask our selfs.... could there be mathematical curves to define our society and social interactions ?

Eg
Power law
Reciprocity curve or third law of motion
Social gravity
Certainty
Mathematical curves to define self interest

I need to test them in life and use those succeed in what I want to do.

the urge is too strong to try to do many things at a time, but the impact is far less than what could have been if you were singly focused on one thing.


If i have to visualize  it....it would a case of trying to focus on two or more power-law curves simultaneously, which I think is going to be disastrous.


it is difficult to focus on one thing , as our mind has this tendency of wandering is the cosmos. On top of it, if we deliberately ask it to juggle multiple activities simultaneously then it would make our brain's job even harder to focus and get the best possible outcome.

I was not satisfied by knowing an answer , I wanted to know the answer to the problem.


Which meant to go to the core or the highest meta of the problem , which took substantial amount of time from my life.

I think , I have the right template now. This is what I was looking for so many years.

I need to walk the talk now..... let us see where these abstraction take us.


It is  never late to correct yourself, it takes courage to change.


I always knew that I had the right genetic make up  of a hard working person and if we add up my back ground of being a bihari - I knew that hard work was default stand for somebody like me.

But a couple of years back, I had this question...when all of us are trained in working hard ...why the fuck are we not at the top of the food chain rather we seem satisfied being somewhere in the middle.


this pushed me to ask question about my own history and the possible legacy I would want to leave

I knew that there was something wrong with the whole approach that my people were following to survive in society.



And then, it dawned at me....... someday I had this vivid visualization .... that I could consider my brain and my hard working body to be a supercar ....but the whole problem was that this super card did not have the ability to consistently stay in a particular direction..... in simple words the software was primitive and the hardware was cutting edge.


The car was not placed in the right direction, or for that manner ...no direction. So, the net displacement was very close to zero. Even though the car had been working so hard to move.


The day I visualized it, was the day I resolve that I will work for finding direction in life and even more...will find the fundamental that will help me find the right direction, no matter what would be the problem that I will be in.


I found it. And it is.....

Subsequently, I started getting more data that confirmed my intuition.

I actually now firmly believe that everything you do in life, all the returns in life come from compound interest. If comes from the length and strength of your relationship.

Look at the PayPal Mafia and how they just keep compounding into new companies that they do together. Similarly, in your marriage or relationship the longer you hold out, the better it gets, the more you survive.

Warren Buffet is the richest guy on the planet, or legally richest guy on the planet, there is a lot of illegal wealth out there too, because he never spends a dollar. He just reinvests it, he just keeps compounding it, and he holds it.

I do not fully understand the consequence of the title .....but I am pretty sure that over time I will understand the deeper nuance of the statement. But , you can't help and get hooked to this simple sentence.


I should find more things in life that have compound interest type returns... be it relationship, be it business , be it knowledge, be it wealth......I think compound interest has something to do with the design of society itself.

there are very few people who do understand this........ I think I had read something similar in the book Intelligent investor by benjamin graham.

lets try to understand:

1) Learning has a compounding effect in our lives...for eg- it took me 3 years ( after my 12th standard ) to get fluent in the use of English language. But ever since, I have been reaping benefits of the hard work I put. I did the work once, I new that it was a once in a life time work and the result will be compounding(it was more intuitive...... I must have not used this term) for the whole life.


2) FBD diagram and visualization (done for physics and mathematics..vector analysis) - I was compelled by my love for understanding the physical world ....that I put innumerable hours to visualize and simplify physics problems. Having been done innumerable times, this ability got stuck with me ,even long after I left the subject. This habit has morphed itself into me asking about the bigger picture first and trying to visualize the outcome , long before it has been understood clearly.( one example would be this article itself, I read something simple....but my brain compelled me to extrapolated consequence of the concept.....long before I have begun using it as well)


3) Money and help - I have seen people offering money and help to those people who precisely don't require both of those entities. Earlier I thought it had something to do with human nature( before i understood, self interest), but now I feeling more and more that it has more to do with compound than self interest, self interest comes in picture after compound interest analysis by help giving entity. The one who is offering money or help knows that the other entity is powerful enough to return the favor in greater amplitude.....hence the generosity. ( I do not have to be politically correct, I am just stating what I have observed)



4) relationship  - The longer one spends with an entity, the more the interactions with the entity and emotionally deeper experience with anyone will keep giving you emotionally deeper and meaningful returns in life. ( I am not interested, but that has been my observation........ till the self interest is aligned )


5) habit formation/neural reorientation - it becomes easier over period of time, the more favorable information one gathers about the new habit and the more one practice , it becomes easier.



I will add more things in life that I thing have compounding effect and had some intuition about them, even before I had understanding of this term......

I thing sooner or later I will completely agree to this statement... but for now the search continues.....

there have been so many instances where this has been correct. I have been tested by so many times before being given exactly what i wanted , it is simply innumerable.


But I have found a pattern similar to what gandhi had found

first ..they ignore you,
then ...they laugh at you,
then ...they fight with you,
then...you win



it is such a repeating pattern in life ....that its trivial to mention as well. People want to know that they are supporting an ideologically strong person who will do anything in his power to make it happen, before accepting you.


So this is a simple message to all those people who are facing resistance in being accepted/their ideas accepted. Just remember , the other party is trying to believe in you while they are trying to resist you. If you do not go away, if you stick with your rationally correct ideas and don't give up ... they will understand the beast they are dealing with. But you have to be certain with proof, that whatever you are standing for is worth the fight.......

remember....posterity will always judge you on what you did.... not what you thought you did..... it is far better to die on the battle field trying to win the war than dreaming of winning the war one day.


Most of the people have not come across an indomitable-will person in life. And I should add that most people do not like being around rigid people until it is their self interest. So , you will be hated by most people in society for having strong opinion about anything.

But then you should say - "who gives a fuck about what other people think".


People have given life for what they believed in ( sometimes they were right to believe in it /sometimes they were wrong), So you should not be worried when people mock you, disrespect you, indifferent to you....etc... for your believes....because time will prove who was right.


Keep learning ... keep improving ( accept your factually proven mistakes quickly, you will be a better person over time)

And get what you want - there is only one copy of yours in past 13.5 billion years........or better yet.... you will never be here again...... so get what you want or die for getting what you want.

in entrepreneurship books, I was taught that the product should be focused for early adopters...which i think is a euphemistic way of saying...that you should only try to sell those who are hungry for your product and direly require your solution........ rest of the customer cohort will join the band wagon after seeing the success of these early product proponents customers. Remember to ask these people to pay for your product from the very first day, otherwise you will not know the value customers put on your product.

Can power law be the solution for problems related to humans

It seems reasonable question to be asked.

I am trying to experiment this thing if I turn out to be correct that power law has solutions to almost 80% of problems related to humans then I would have considered my past 5 years worthy of my effort.

Need to understand human decision making

And impact of making a decision on life and body and mind and behavior and habit

impact of a decision on the brain

does the body conform to the decision taken or does it resist ?

DO our expectation and behavioral response change once we have made a decision ?

These are interesting questions.



I do not know answer to these questions. But I think , it must be pretty core to our existence. In the whole day I see myself making dicisions ....some are small and some have huge impact on my life.


Nobody taught me or for that matter anyone, how to make decisions........ what I do think would be interesting would be to understand pre and post impact of a decision on our brain and anatomy and habit.

I can hypothesize a few outcomes ....but It just occurred to me...that if I could know the pre and post impact of decisions in life ( or at least for certain category of decisions), I could use that knowledge for my self interest.


it will be interesting to come to this realization.
